Butt welded elbow is a kind of pipe fitting, mainly used to change the direction of the pipe. Butt welding refers to the elbow and pipe by welding together, this connection can provide higher strength and tightness.

(1) Butt welding elbow according to its radius of curvature, can be divided into long radius butt welding elbow and short radius butt welding elbow. The curvature radius of the long radius butt welded elbow is equal to 1.5 times the outside diameter of the pipe, that is, R=1.5D. The curvature radius of the short radius butt welded elbow is equal to the outside diameter of the pipe, that is, R=1D. Where D is the diameter of butt welded elbow and R is the radius of curvature. If there are no special instructions, the general choice is 1.5D elbow.
